SLOPED BOTTOM, FULL DRAINAGE STORAGE TANK

Rock salt used to make salt brine contains at least 5% impurities, usually in the form of silica flakes. The heavier flakes remain in the bottom of the brine maker and the lighter flakes are carried into the storage tanks. That means that for every 100,000 gallons made,
5.5 tons of silica flakes remain in the brine making and storage system. If this sediment is not dealt with, it will cause severe problems with equipment used to apply the brine. The fine silica flakes are transferred with the brine to the storage tanks and settle to the bottom of the tanks, eventually reaching the level of the withdrawal fitting, and are then drawn into the pumps and application equipment. They get in the solenoid valves, ball valves and pump seals, substantially reducing their life. Reed Systems has been aware of this for over 15 years and designed equipment to deal with the problem. The sloped bottom tank shown on this page is only one of the steps we have taken to make your equipment more dependable.
